EGMF joins Renew Europe Stakeholder Roundtable

On 29 January, EGMF attended the Renew Europe Stakeholder Roundtable “Elevator Pitch for Better Single Market Rules” at the European Parliament.

Industries were requested to provide three concrete proposals for cutting down rules that hamper innovation, competitiveness, the protection of consumers and the functioning of the Single Market.

EGMF endorsed Orgalim’s key messages regarding simplification including:
• Adoption of Digital Product Instructions
• Necessity for a better and faster European Standardisation System
• One-Stop-Shop for Cybersecurity Reporting

Additionally, the European Garden manufacturers submitted their priorities regarding streamlined rules and cutting red tape, including:
• In the context of Machinery Regulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) interplay: ensuring legal assessment to analyse the scope of AI-based safety components to avoid manufacturers spending unnecessary resources for compliance with requirements that don’t apply to their products.
• Speeding up and simplifying the process for updating harmonised standards with well-reflected transition periods to avoid unrealistic deadlines that can lead to non-compliance.
• Alignment of all EU product legislation with the New Legislative Framework (NLF) to allow digital documents, digital instructions, and CE-marking on products with no fragmentation and a consistent interpretation and application among members states.

Our thanks to Renew Europe IMCO members for inviting EGMF representatives to join this debate and we look forward to engaging further with the European Parliament on similar initiatives!
